How To Handle Negative Thoughts?
Aloha Powerful Lions,
In this empowerment lesson, we will be going over on how to handle negative thoughts.
An ancient practice that I have acquired to handle negative thoughts is to expand the gap between stimuli and response. The space between stimuli and response holds our power to handle negative thoughts.
A common stimuli that causes negative thoughts is pain. When we expand the gap, it provides us more awareness time to create a more effective response to stimuli like pain. In the beginning, the gap maybe very difficult to perceive. But with practice, you will slowly and surely become aware of your power within this space. And with disciplined focus and practice, you will be able to expand your gap.
Now you may ask, how do I expand my gap between stimuli and response? This is a powerful question deserving a powerful answer.
My research continues to uncover more ways to expand the gap, ultimately increasing your power to handle negative thoughts which also increase your effectiveness in response to stimuli.
The following are proven practices to expand your gap between stimuli and response:
- Meditation
- Cold showers
- Physical training
Meditation
There are many ways to meditate. Some of the main points of meditation can be found in The Bhagavad Gita on pages 65-67. The ancients go over these things called Gifts Of Meditation. They are Sahaseva(restraint), Nakula(adherence), Arjuna(self-control), bhima(vitality), and Yudhisthira(divine calmness). I have found that I can integrate meditation into my daily lifestyle by doing the things I am already doing and just becoming focused on these gifts. I have discovered that by becoming mindful(maintaining alertness of mind) and immersed with these gifts while performing my daily tasks makes it easy for me to meditate which ultimately expands my gap between stimuli and response day by day.
Cold Showers
Another easy practice to integrate into your daily lives are cold showers. There are many scientific revelations that present positive impacts to your body when physically immersing yourself in cold water. In my experience, commanding your body to be calm in response to a sudden fluctuation of your skin temperature is a powerful exercise. I feel with each command of my mind to my body to breath calmy and stay composed under cold temperature expands my gap between stimuli and response.
Physical Training
Another practice I have uncovered that expands my gap between stimuli and response is physical training. Especially the kind of training that you force your body to move past the pain in-order to achieve a training goal. For example, I would set a jogging distance for 1-mile. Then I would start and even if I am tired and feeling pain, I do-not stop jogging until the full mile is reached. Now, depending on the level of pain, I might jog slower, but the point is to not stop and push past the pain until training goal is achieved. This practice surely expands the gap between stimuli and response. Another exercise is when working with weight resistance all the way to failure. This practice equips your mind with the confidence to handle pain and the belief that it will survive even when the body fails. I have discovered that this confidence to handle pain expands the gap and the belief allows the mind to maintain the space forged by the exercise.
Our master, his highness – The Dalai Lama would say, “more research is required” to uncover more ways to expand the gap between stimuli and response. But for now, let us start our practice with exercising our power with the proven practices above.
Lion Mentor Revelation
The only perfect being in our universe is God. Humans are imperfect, hence our minds create imperfect thoughts.
“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
– Proverbs 16:3
There are only 2 ways to acquire thoughts. The 1st way is by the mind of man creating the thought, which I have stated are imperfect. The 2nd way is to have thoughts bestowed down to us from the heavens above. Understand that “thoughts are cosmic waves that penetrate time and space” (Proctor And Gallagher Institute). When you vibrate at a frequency in resonance with thy heavenly thoughts, in accordance to the laws of the universe, you will attract thy heavenly thoughts to you. Time nor space cannot stop these positive thoughts from reaching you. This is an ancient and mystical practice that has been around for thousands of years. This is an effective lesson in handling negative thoughts.
Do-not focus on removing the negative thought. Focus on filling thy cup – your mind, with the heavenly thoughts that are bestowed down into you. This slight shift of focus from your negative thought to heaven’s positive thoughts compounded daily will truly change your life for the better.
I am thankful for you investing your time in equipping yourself with these powerful understandings. It takes a special person to invest their time into growing themselves. And that is why your here. That is why you are a part of this powerful world community that is equipped with heightened senses and the ferocity of love and compassion.
